The Saeima plenary has elected Valdis Zatlers as Latvia's next president.

The vote was 58 for Zatlers, and 39 for opposition candidate Aivars Endzins.
51 votes in favor was the minimum number required.
98 deputies participated in the vote, and all ballot slips were ruled valid.

BAFL board members were in Washington, DC the first week of March to discuss Baltic issues. Co-President Alnis Briedis, Imants Leitis, Co-President Vija A. Turjanis, and Valdis Pavlovskis met with Samantha Spinney, Congressman Dennis Kucinich's Legislative Assisstant on March 2.
