BALTIC STATES TO DEVELOP ENERGY STRATEGY

VILNIUS, Lithuania, Jan. 8 (UPI) Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are nearing completion of a joint energy strategy to ensure adequate supply and security of energy sources.

According to the Lithuanian Economics Ministry a draft is now being reviewed and will be outlined at a summit at the end of January, Interfax reports.

The draft strategy has been submitted for study and discussion by the relevant authorities and public in the Baltic states, a ministry statement said. After the summit the prime ministers of the three countries will have to approve the plan, which focuses on a number of issues.

The draft calls for Baltic power grid and gas delivery integration into the European Union's system.

The trio will also shop together for non-EU energy sources and calls for a more diverse venue of power.

The strategy also calls for a liquefied natural gas terminal and pipeline and delivery network to connect to Lithuania, Poland, Estonia and Finland, the Daily News Bulletin in Moscow reports.
