LITHUANIA'S PRESIDENT VALDAS ADAMKUS WILL NOT TOLERATE ANTI-SEMETIC ACTIONS

VILNIUS - During a meeting with an outgoing Israeli Ambassador to Lithuania Gary Koren on June 29, Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus outlined that Lithuania would not tolerate anti-Semitic actions, BNS reported. Last weekend, the Lithuanian public was shaken by an act of vandalism at a Jewish cemetery in Vilnius. About 20 monuments were torn down at the cemetery. Police have not detained any suspects yet. According to a press release from the president's press service, during the meeting with Koren, Adamkus also noted that Lithuanian-Israeli relations had become more intensive in recent years. "We should be glad about the dynamics of relations between our countries, develop it, sign new required agreements. Especially business ties should be intensified," Adamkus said. Koren, who resides in Riga, was accredited as ambassador to Lithuania in September 2003.
